Have you ever wanted to visit one of the most remote regions of Scotland? Do the wide-open spaces of Shetland appeal to you? Wild, remote, and beautiful, the Shetland Islands are the northernmost specs of land in the United Kingdom. Getting there requires a certain amount of determination and a willingness to brave turbulent skies or rough seas.
But, there is an alternative.
The very popular television series, “Shetland”, is not only set in Shetland, but is also filmed there. The series started in 2013 and continues periodically to this day. It is produced by ITV for the BBC and is based on a story by Ann Cleeves.
The accents are real as the primary actors are Scottish. They include Doug Henshall, Alison O’Donnell, Steven Robertson, Mark Bonnar, and others.
Shetland can be found on several streaming services such as MHZChoice, and Prime.
