The term “Halloween” comes from a shortening of “All-Hallows-Eve” Scottish-style, or so say some experts. It has historical roots in an ancient Gaelic festival called “Samhuinn”. The phrase for trick-or-treating in Scotland is “guising” and is derived from “disguising” as in the costumes worn by children.
