PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Gentlemen of the Society:

On Saturday March 12, 2016 the City of Albany held its annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. While we did not participate in the parade we did hold a luncheon in the rooms to celebrate this occasion. There were 15-20 in attendance. Everyone had a good time and those who could not attend missed a wonderful luncheon. We thank Dan Graves for again spending his day preparing and serving the corned beef.

It is my intent to propose to the Society an amendment to the constitution at our May 12, 2016 meeting. Currently the constitution requires a quorum of fifteen resident members to be present to vote on proposals before the society. The last two meetings have had an attendance of fourteen resident members present. We should consider making a quorum be 20% of resident members to be a quorum. This would make the resident members only number 10 to be a quorum. It is my intent to pass this change onto the Board of Managers so that they can offer their opinion of this change at our September meeting.

We currently have a qualified applicant, Steve King, who could be voted on this May if we have a quorum at our May 12, 2016 meeting. Please make every effort to attend this meeting as we can certainly use more members.

We strongly suggest that all members review the web site to verify that all the information therein is accurate. If any items are found to be in need of change or addition please contact Rev. Joe Shook.

I would like to request that members send a card to members who are not able to attend our meetings or events. I am sure that members like these would be much appreciative to be remembered by their fellow members and friends. You might just make someone’s day.

Our quest speaker this month will be William Burke, who will discuss the Duncan Campbell Memorial to be dedicated this summer in Fort Edward, NY. He will also talk to the members about the Black Watch and their history at Fort Ticonderoga.

Anyone who needs a ride to attend meetings or events please contact Bruce Newell, William Burke or Richard MacDowell. We will be glad to try to arrange transportation for anyone we can.
