PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Gentlemen of the Society:

The St. Andrew’s Society of Albany held its annual dinner to celebrate the birthday of Robert Burns on January 23, 2015. Dinner was held at the Colonie Country Club. President Newell welcomed members and guests to this joyous event. The Ode to the Haggis was given by potential member Steve King. Thanks to Charles Brown for arranging the dinner for the country club. Thanks to William Burke for arranging all the details of the dinner. A silent auction was held and the proceeds, $403.10, will be used to maintain the Rooms.

Dues reminder. If you have not paid your dues for 2016 please do so at your earliest convenience and save the Society the expense of sending you a past due notice. Thank you.

Volunteers needed. We are looking for members to serve on the entertainment committee. The committee is responsible for arranging speakers for our meetings and singers or musicians for our dinner events. If you have voiced concerns about who we hired to sing or play, now is the time for you to show us how it should be done.
We are also in need of someone to assist the stewards in preparing the refreshments after the meetings.
Update on the state of the rooms. The house committee conducted a cleanup day to prepare the attic for the installation of additional insulation. They are working on getting the door to the roof repaired or replaced. They are arranging for estimates on the cost of the chimney repairs.

The committee members are also updating the 5 year plan so that repairs are done in the correct order. The committee moved the side board up to the third floor and repaired a faulty light fixture in the basement. Thank you to Rich Hixon and crew.

Stated meeting for March 10, 2016. The March meeting is Ladies’ Night. Thelma and Peter Ford will present a lecture on Friendship, Scenery and Wild Animals. Thelma and Peter have traveled to South Africa on nine occasions. They stay with friends who own and run a wild game farm. Peter and Thelma will have a slide presentation which should be educational and entertaining for everyone. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the rooms on March 10, 2016.
