PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Gentlemen of the Society:

Our Burns night celebration was a huge success. For the information of those who could not attend, we had a catered affair at the Art Institute. A visit by Robert Burns was the highlight of the evening. Thank you Peter McLetchie and Joseph and Claudia Shook for a wonderful skit.

Committee business: The chimney flue has been repaired and the heating system should be good for a long time. A new stainless steel flue was installed and the fireplace was repaired and is in fine working order. A letter will be forthcoming to the members of the Society asking them to participate in regularly scheduled inspections of the rooms. Please watch for this letter as it will have more details.

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 2 PM. We ask anyone wishing to join the fun at the rooms to bring a dish to share and whatever you would like to drink. This traditionally is a great time and a good time to invite quests and potential members to join us. Please plan on helping with the cleanup at the conclusion of the event.

Our next stated meeting is on March 9, 2017. This meeting is Ladies’ Night and all ladies are welcome and encouraged to attend. At the conclusion of our regular meeting Jean Burns, wife of Jim Burns, our Armorer, and a retired educator, will talk about her recollections of the famous Albany artist and sculptor, David C. Lithgow. Lithgow was a past president of the St. Andrew’s Society of Albany (1933-1935). Jean met the artist as a young girl. Her father was a close friend of the artist and also a member of the society.

On April 20 at 7 PM in the rooms. Bob Mulligan and Randy Patten will discuss the contributions made by David Lithgow to the Society and to the City of Albany. Also that evening Valarie Lloyd will present an oil painting done by David Lithgow to the Society. It is her wish that the Society have this painting which has been in her family for a long time. This presentation will take about an hour with the opportunity to ask questions at the conclusion of the event.
