Dear Society Members, Friends, and Family
August 5th has already been announced as the date for a day trip to this fascinating Adirondack historic site (see link below) that belonged to our founding member, first Secretary, and early President, Archibald McIntyre. The tour will be led by our Librarian/Historian, Bill Bruce.
Here are some excursion details:
Meet at 50 French Road, Schroon Lake, NY at 11AM. This residence is on the way, about 1.5 hours from the Albany airport. You can Google map it for directions and driving time. This will be a stretch your legs, restroom, and water stop at 50 French Road since there is no visitors center or rest rooms at Tahawus. From here we can carpool and drive the 45 minute ride to the mining site. After visiting the mining site, deserted village, we will return to 50 French Road for a BBQ. On the way back there is a buffalo farm (link below) we can stop at, if you wish to view the herd, purchase buffalo meat, produce, baked goods or other items. Masks may still be required in this store. They have excellent home made pies.
Spouses, guests and children are welcome. Note: This outing to Tahawus involves very little hiking, climbing, or even walking, and is not at all physically challenging, but wear appropriate footwear.
Feel free to bring some drinks or a food item to share at the BBQ!
If you plan to attend, please email Bill Bruce at wbruce5190@gmail.com by July 31st as he will need a head count for burgers and hot dogs, and let him know what you might be planning to bring.
Note: If you would be interested in camping and making it an overnight trip, the Frontier Town campground, (new and very nice with equestrian facilities), is just up the road about 5 miles from the BBQ. It is also next door to the Paradox Brewery which has excellent pub food and beer, links below.
